Does Cyproheptadine Assist With Clonazepam Withdrawal Symptoms?

Does cyprohepadine assist with clonazepam withdrawal? My son was weaned off clonazepam after 4years
Due to no REM sleep on sleep study. He tapered off clonazepam over 7 month period had ceased 6 weeks ago. Recent admission to hospital they recommended .5mg. then ceased after6 days. Now not sleeping
And becomes combative with nurses during night. Appreciate you input. Alana

I can understand your concern. Cyproheptadine is a medicine that works by increasing serotonin and thus helps to improve the appetite and some times sleep also. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine drug and the drug helps to improve GABA transmission in brain. Both drugs are different in actions. So Cyproheptadine would not cause much benefit in Clonazepam withdrawal symptoms.

Your son has weaned the doses effectively and now he is on very low doses that is 0.5 mg. In such case medicines like Pregabalin or Gabapentin can help him. These medicines can help to relieve anxiety and will also assist in sleep. Please consult his psychiatrist for expert opinion.
