Does Delsym Cough Syrup Has Adverse Effects On Body?
My son is having a panic attack and has informed me that he has drank one bottle of Delsym 5 Oz cough syrup every day for the last five days to get high. It is my understanding that each bottle is 888 mg of the psychoactive ingredient, dextromethorphan. Having tripped on this stuff myself in my younger years, i urged him to stop doing this immediately as I am aware of the dangers. I told him he will most likely be okay if he calms down and stops using immediately. My question is, could this have any impact on his organs or overall health? Thanks in advance.
Yes, a panic attack may be caused by high doses of dextromethorphan. Nervousness is one the side effects of this drug. Severe anxiety, confusion even hallucinations may happen in some rare cases. Stop using that drug and never use it in age under 4 years old.
Take care, and best wishes. Dr Eriol.
