Is It Safe To Take Lexapro With Delsym Cough Syrup?

Is it ok to take lexapro with delsym cough syrup? I always take my lexapro before bed because I work days 3-11 and I don t want to fall asleep at work. I ve had a terrible cough for over a week now from all the pollen...atleast that s what I think is causing it....but I bought some delsym just now for the cough but I m afraid to take both.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

These medications should not be used together.

They both increase the levels of a chemical called serotonin and can potentially result in serotonin syndrome.

This syndrome is associated with confusion, seizures, hallucinations, change in pulse/blood pressure, muscle spasms, blurred vision, tremor.
These are some of the symptoms associated with this condition.

You should not use the both of these medications.

I hope this helps
