Does Dexamethasone Intake Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes?
My dad had 10 dexamthazone pills the day before his velcade injection The pre-injection blood test on the day of injection showed elevated liver enzymes. Normally he takes the 10 pills after the blood test and his enzymes had been fine. Could taking the dexamethazone the day before Ben the cause of his elevated liver enzymes? Thank you.
Dexamethasone is a steroid thus can cause adverse response on everybody tissue including the liver when taken in high dosages.
But since the liver enzymes are elevated for the first time it is needed to take into consideration other causes as well. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation for your father.
Repeat the liver function tests and also go for detailed investigations to find out the type of liver disease, Ultrasonography of abdomen along with clinical evaluation by a Doctor.
All these will give a proper diagnosis so that any additional management can be done as needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask for further relevant queries.
