Does Diflucan Cause White, Lumpy Vaginal Discharge?
hi there i was diagnosed with yeast infection about a month ago by my family doctor . i took Diflucan pill yesterday and i noticed that am having lumps of white discharge today which i have never experienced before. have no itching, burning or pain just the white discharge which is odorless. do you think the diflucan is causing the increase vaginal discharge or is that normal
Though candidiasis or thrush is a common cause of cheesy discharge occasionally there can be mixed infection with anaerobic bacteria and chlamydia which needs testing and specific treatment.
This is best done by a vaginal examination and doing a culture and sensitivity test of the discharge.
Rarely patients with copper IUD can have endometrium infection too.
You may need combined treatment with Clotrimazole and clindamycin pessary for mixed infection and oral antibiotics too depending on the culture and sensitivity result of the infection. Please consult your gynecologist at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
