Does Digoxin Cause Seizures?

I’m taking digoxin for my heart failure, just started taking it. I drink some drinks with caffeine, since I’ve started taking it I’ve had 2 weird seizure like episodes, I did not uncinate my pants which I know it’s one thing people do while seizuring. Could it be a side effect of digoxin?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As such with therapeutic dose with digoxin seizure has not been observed yet in population. However, there are a few reports stating that digoxin toxicity is associated with epileptiform seizure.

I advise you to consult your treating physician and get blood digoxin level checked to rule out digoxin toxicity. If require stop digoxin and use dopamine in lower doses according to your physician advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
