I started diovan(generic) 3weeks ago. I was sick with flue 2weeksago with fever ,aches, and dry cough. I finished z-pack. The flu symptom S are gone, but I still cough. It get intense once cough started cannot stop. I was taking cough syrup and cold medicine because of my cough. My voice is horsey. I am wondering this cough is a possible a side effect of diovan. I was on lisinoprine for 3 month, but I stopped because of dry cough and I switched to diovan. Thank you Angela
Diovan can cause dry cough as its one of the side effects. Generally dry cough is an important dose limiting side effect of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors like Lisinopril. However, the angiotensin receptor blocker like Diovan (Valsartan) although rare but can also cause dry cough and angioedema resulting in hoarseness of voice.
I advise you to stop taking Diovan and talk to your treating physician for an alternate effective but a safer BP lowering medication like Amlodipine or Metoprolol.
Hope these answer your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a very good health. Kindly rate the answers if you are convinced.
