Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am I am allergic to erythromycin - develop a rash. I have just started taking Curam duo forte (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid) and have developed a rash. I am wondering if it is related to the tablets I m taking and if there is clavulanic acid in erythromycin?
I can understand your concern. Erythromycin and Clavulanic Acid are different molecules and Erythromycin is an antibiotic that does not contain Clavulanic Acid.
However, as you have developed a rash that you develop during allergic reaction, it is possible that you are allergic to Amoxicillin. than is Penicillin group of antibiotics. Allergy to this group is very common.
You can take antihistamine such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for 5 days to control the reaction. You also need to stop taking the medicine and consult the prescribing doctor again for a new prescription for the disorder that you are taking antibiotics for.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
