Does FML Eye Drop Cause Tonsillitis?

I have apparent tonsillitis since I started FML eye drops (with Benzalkonium Chloride) and I have a long haul flight tommorow. Is this viral or an allergy to eye drops and is it safe to fly. Will I need systemic steroids short term to ensure my airway doesn t close during flight?

Hi and welcome to HCM,
FML eyedrops is a mild steroid, containing fluorometholone acetate.
Benzalkonium is just a vehicle and preservative.

It is very unlikely that FML has caused the tonsillitis, or that you may be allergic to FML.
It is perfectly safe to fly and this will resolve completely within a weeks time.
All the best !!!
