Does Farxiga Cause Dehydration , Heart Palpitations And Lower Abdominal Pain?

I noticed pain and tenderness to touch in the lower abdomen upon taking a deep breath the day after I was seen in the ER for heart palpitations. Dehydration was diagnosed at the ER. I started taking Farxiga 3 months ago in addition to Janumet for type 2 diabetes. Could all this be a side affect of Farxiga? Should I stop taking the Farxiga?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of type 2 diabetes. Since you are having palpitations, lower pain abdomen & are taking Janumet & Farxiga you should get your treating doctor informed at the earliest & get a follow-up treatment done.

You may experience palpitations, pain lower abdomen & dehydration when your blood sugar level is slow. Stay well hydrated. It looks like the combined side effects of the medicines you are taking.

The dose of the medications may need to be changed. Or a medication that suits you better can be given.

To stay on the safer side get your CBC (Fasting & PP for Blood sugar), Lipid profile, X-Ray, ECG, Echocardiography done. Sometimes Farxiga causes cholesterol levels to get raised as side effects.

Stay away from oily food & red meat, take whole grains, veggies & berries. Take adequate sleep & water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
