Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Glyburide associated with heart disease? I have been taking it successfully for about 10 + years. I recently moved and the endocrinologist I am now seeing has taken me off of it, claiming that it causes heart disease and that is why he has not prescribed it for over 15 years. He took me off glyburide (10mg bid) and added Jardiance, (10 mg, once a day). For the 5 weeks I have been on the new regime, my am BG level has been over 150 (that is now the lowest I have experienced). I have developed vaginal yeast infections, excessive dry mouth and urination (15 times a day and night) and a cough. I just read the medication insert today and listed dehydration, yeast infections and URI and possible side effects. Is GLYBURIDE a culprit in heart disease?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You listed heart disease as the reason that glyburide was stopped. However, there is no specific heart disease that its contraindicated in. It does cause weight gain, though.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
