Does Guanfacine Cause Agitation And Aggressive Behaviour?

My nephew was just placed on guanfacine 1 mg at noon and it seems to make him more agitated and disrespectful and argumentative. He does take foculin 20 mg in the morning and 10 mg at noon. The foculin has been working well for 2 years but the Dr and I thought he needed more support in focusing and less defiance so he was prescribed this yesterday. We noticed a change today and he is arguing more, does not listen to the grown ups. Is this a side effect of the drug. I did not keep the information sheet so thats why I am here .

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Guanfacine is commonly prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disease and is a commonly prescribed drug. Irritability and aggressiveness is a common side effect and it will subside in a week or two. Nothing much to worry and you can continue the same dose as prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
