Does HPV Treatment Help In Treating Anal Warts?

Hello, I have ben diagnosed with HPV (6 and 51) this May, but just this week discovered that I also have internal anal warts. I am 23 year old female. This came as a shock to me as I only got second partner in my life since last year. (before I had my first partner for 5 years). I am having very healthy life style in general, no alcohol, no smoking, healthy diet, regular exercise. However, I worry a lot about everything, so my emotions are always up and down. I was told that I have several large warts inside my anus and they have to be gradually (i 2 or 3 sessions) removed surgically. Aldara cream was prescribed to me but doctor mentioned that it might not work internally, however I might want to try to at least reduce the size of the warts. I am doing everything possible for the last 3 months to strengthen my Immune system and I am wondering what else I can do to avoid the surgery. As I understand, when I clear the HPV (I know it stays for ever in the system, but when I would deactivate it) the warts should go away as well, correct? They are only there as long as the virus is active, right? Very desperate and very depressed. My emotions are killing me. Thank you very much for any suggestion. Marta

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Anal wart is caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) and is transmitted by sexual intercourse. It is a very resistant kind of infection. Relapse is common very after treatment. Creams, surgery and laser treatments are available but no treatment guarantees cure. Sometimes it resolves spontaneously without treatment. You have already undergone surgical treatment. It has again relapsed. Treatment is not required if it not causing any problem.
Advice
1.     Aldara 5% cream– apply it only on wart which is outside anus. Apply onto fingertip and rubbed onto clean, dry, wart area until cream vanishes, once daily, three times per week at bed time. Wash off next morning with soap and water. Apply very small amount. Use this for 16 weeks continuously. But do not use it if you are pregnant or planning to conceive. After 16 weeks of use, if wart does not disappear then consult your doctor of other treatment option. Non-treatment is an option for asymptomatic warts.
2.     Take high protein diet such as eggs, pulses and meat to enhance immunity
Thanks
