Hi doctor. My periods date is on 6th jan. due to unprotected sex i took an i-pill on 16th dec. For me bleeding started on 24th dec and bleeding was there for 4 days. So am i going to get periods again on 6th jan or can i say i had early periods due to taking an i-pill. please answer.
Hello, I have gone through the query and understood your concern. The emergency pill contains high doses of progestogen and this disrupts the hormone milieu. Hence there is usually some amount of withdrawal bleeding soon after using the pill. The next natural period also can get delayed by a week or two for the same reason. So, if you become overdue by ten days for your next natural period, please see a specialist for further evaluation and management. Also, please restrict the use of emergency pills for one or two occasions per year to avoid hormone disturbances and fertility issues in future. Hope this helps.
