Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my regular periods were from 20th but this is the first time i swallowed an i-pill after sex within 12 hrs on 1st but i m not sure how will it affect my menstrual cycle. Can someone please explain what would be my menstrual cycle? Will i get my periods on my earlier regular dates i.e 20th? If not then what can i do to get my periods on my regular date of 20th every month?
To know weather the pill is effective, you should get your periods within 3 weeks from the day of taking the pill. Once you get the periods, it indicates that you are not pregnant. Accordingly your cycle will alter from next time. Sometimes you might experience cycle irregularities, but should stabilize in one or two cycles.
If it is delayed for more than 3 weeks, it indicates you might be pregnant and you need to seek medical help immediately.
Hope the information provided would be useful. All the best.

How Does I-pill Affect Menstrual Cycle?
Hi, Thanks for writing in HCM. I understand your concern that you have taken i-pill for the first time and need to know about it. i-pill is an emergency contraceptive pill. It should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse to be effective to prevent pregnancy. Earlier it is taken, better the chances of pregnancy prevention. To know weather the pill is effective, you should get your periods within 3 weeks from the day of taking the pill. Once you get the periods, it indicates that you are not pregnant.
