Hi. I took an ipill on the 6th day of periods last month, i.e. on 16th aug. I had slight bleeding for three days from 21-23 aug. But till date i still havent got my periods. My normal cycle is between 28-30 days. Is it a side effect of ipill or is pregnancy possible? I am experiencing mood swings and back pain also. Please help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern,. I pill is a preparation with high dose of hormones. It works by postponing ovulation day. In your case, you took it on day 6th-which can not be ovulation day in 28-30days cycle. so High hormones caused simple withdrawal bleeding between 21-23 august. This has interfered with your normal menstrual cycle. which has delayed your menstrual cycle. There are following possibilities when we think of mood swings/ back ache - - it may be due to psychological stress /fear of pregnancy. - It may be premenstrual symptoms of your altered menstrual cycle, - The ovulation day being changed this time, you remained careless & might have conceived giving symptoms of early pregnancy. Blood HCG would be the deciding test. Thanks. Now to come out of confusion Blood HCG test will help.
