Does IUD Placement Cause Recurring Sharp Pain In Ovary Radiating To Back And Hip?
I had the Mirena IUD place a little over 2 weeks ago and have been doing well with it. But I have been getting sever sudden sharp pains in my left ovary tonight that radiate to my back and hip. The kind of pain that stops your breath and drops you to your knees. Is there a possibility these are related? Or just coincidence?
The most common side effect of IUD placement is unfortunately PAIN. But the good news is , usually this pain will last only for a few days and hence shouldnt be a cause of concern.
Also, you can use Ibuprofen or other non-steroidal analgesics(NSAIDS) as and when required to reduce cramping in the first few days.
Other common side-effects after IUD insertion are bleeding between menses for a few months after use and heavier and longer menstrual bleeding which can also be taken care of by Ibuprofen.
Hope this helps, Follow-up questions are always welcome, Regards, Dr.Pallavi Jain
