Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Information: chronic disk issues, have taken mult different medications for this . . . .HERE is the question: I take a lot, upto 800 mg a day of Ibuprofen; recently after taking ibuprofen . . . .start itching in various parts of arms, legs, sides . . . . Liver failure?
If Ibuprofen is taken for a course of 3-5 days, it will not cause any major side effects. But it has been seen that when taken in excessive doses over time, it may cause liver dysfunction or toxic hepatitis. You should consult your treating doctor and inform him of the symptoms that are causing you discomfort.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get liver function tests, urinalysis, CBC, stool tests, imaging tests done to detect any developing liver dysfunction so that it can be treated at the earliest. You can also include food that is good for the liver in your daily diet. Avoid oily spicy food. Take home made nutritious food. Take food that is easily digestible, avoid red meat, cheese, full fat dairy for a couple of days. Avoid addictions if any. Take adequate rest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
