Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Krill Oil Tablets Interact With Mycophenolate Mofetil And Atorvastatin?
HI, im looking at taking Krill tablets but i have had a renal transplant and have anti-rejection medication below and want to check there is no issues . 1. Prednisone 7.5mg daily 2. Mycophenolate Mofetil 1g bd 3. Cyclosporin 125mg bd 4. Atorvastatin 10mg daily 5. Metoprolol 23.75mg daily 6. Alendronate 70mg weekly
Based on the history you have shared, Krill oil does interact with beta-blocker, metoprolol you are taking but it may also intercept with immunosuppressive therapy as not necessarily all interactions have been trialed on humans.
With such a history of renal disease, and on verge of recovery, an extra cautious approach should be adopted instead of trying every other home remedy, or online advice, or even unauthenticated products for your renal safety.
Nothing of this type should be taken without consulting your nephrologist and any short term benefit should not lead to overlooking long term advantage of being dialysis free and to keep transplanted kidney working.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
