Hi I went to see the doctor last Tuesday....was given just plan Amoxicillion sp 875 after taken it for 4 days I didn t see any improvement called back. Was then given Augmenten sp 875. Took for 2 days still didn t see an improvement While running a fever and feeling worse. Went back to doctor this past Monday was disgnosed with Pneumonia was given Levofloxacin and a Proventil inhaler. Still running a fever, chest still hurts, sinus pressure and pain, Still coughing up and blowing thick yellow phlegm. Why am I not feeling any better than I feel I should 4 days later? When should I expect to turn the corner?? How long does pneumonia last??? Thank you
The Pneumonia treatment consists of multiple approaches:
- antibiotic (Amoxicillin; Levofloxacin) to treat a bacterial infection
- mucolytics to dissolve phlegm
- vapour rub applying on your chest and upper back to open narrowed airways
- analgesic to treat fever, pain
- bronchodilators and sometimes steroidal inhalation chambers
- aerosol therapy (with saline or even steroids like Clenil) can also help.
After all these approaches we can see the real improvement. However, it's true if pneumonia has set need time to recover.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
