Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking Levothyroxine just over three weeks ago and in the last few days I have experienced severe pain (similar to heartburn/reflux) during and after eating. Is this likely to be caused by the Levothyroxine? I have never had heartburn before. The pain continues for a number of hours after I have eaten.
Hello, Welcome to HCM, Thank you for posting your question. Levothyorixine in high dose can cause abdominal pain, which is a lesser common side of the drug. It usually manifests after 6 hours to 11 days after ingestion. I suggest you consult your doctor to check if the dose can be reduced. Otherwise the time of dosing can be changed to night which is effective as well Hope this helps. Get well soon.
