Does Levothyroxine Cause Excessive Sweating, Insomnia And Palpitations?
Hello. I am a 64 year old female and for a couple of years (or more) I have had insomnia and excessive sweating from hot flashes. Probably four or five every day and during the night I have lots of sweating. I am post-menopausal. I take levothyroxine for hypoactive thyroid and have been for years. When I have the hot flashes during the day my entire body becomes wet. Legs, everything!! I have a combipatch but it really does no good. I have tried Black Cohash. My doc gave me trazadone (100 mg) to take for the insomnia but I had to quit and it was making me very confused. I also had extreme muscle/joint aches during the time I took trazadone. Initially I took 50 mg and it did not help the insomnia. I believe that when she raised the dosage to 100 mg it helped the insomnia but that is when I became confused and quit taking it. I mention the levothyroxine as I have read articles that indicate excessive sweating, insomnia, and palpitations can be caused by this. At the end of my rope. Thank you. Luann
From your description I am of the opinion that You are taking the excess dosage of levothyroxine, the dosage should be titrated according to deficiency. Excess of levothyroxine is manifesting symptoms similar to hyperthyroidism. That's why palpitations, anxiety and sweating. if possible please send me your thyroid reports and I any be able to help you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
