Does Levothyroxine Cause Hair Loss, Swelling In The Feet And Weight Gain?
Hi, I am a 56 year old female with a bit too many pounds. About 6 months ago, I experienced extreme hair loss and here lately, my feet have started swelling on the bottom and now it is my toes too. I have hypothyroidism and I take levothyroxin. Can it have anything to do with that.? I find it extremely hard to stand on my feet for any extended period of time and my shoes do not seem to fit me anymore. Please help
Hello....i'll try and address your concern. The symptoms of hair fall and swelling in the feet along with weight gain are seen in hypothyroidism. Since you are already on treatment with levothyroxine, it is likely that the dose of medication is not adequate for you. Levothyroxine in an appropriate dose will in fact prevent the symptoms hypothyroidism. It is not the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. I suggest you get a thyroid function test and consult with your physician who can guide you regarding the dose you need to be taking in case it is insufficient. Regards,
