Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Diagnosed with Hashimoto's last Feb. was having slight hair loss a few months before. Always had allot of hair, I am 56yrs.old. Put on Levothyroxine in Feb 50mcg. In May new doseage of 75 levo. Within 2 weeks of 75 mcg noticeable hair loss and hair thinning. This went on till Nov. and every 2-3 months I keep telling endo. about hair loss. Upped doseage again in Nov to 88mcg. Two weeks later hair falling out 2x more than it ever had before. Told dr. again and tried to change meds. In past month I have lost so much hair it now appears I have mpb. Tried minodil and used for 8 months and developed a reaction that made my scalp seep clear fluid. Stopped using in Sept. Blood work last week was good and tsh was 1.4. Never had hair loss till hashimoto's and it doesn't seem to be new hair growing in loss area's. At my wits end. Also can Levothyroxine cause hair loss as I have seen some say yes and others no?
hi you got it all wrong it is not the levothyroxine that is causing the hair loss it is because of the thyoiditis
i would suggest you repeat a thyroid profile to make sure that the level of medicine you are currently on is sufficient and appropriate you may need to step up the thyroid medication till the thyroid profile is sufficiently settled
you could try minoxidil solution this will help in at least stabilization of your hairline
best of luck
