Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Librium , does it help remove the craving for alcohol . and what are the side effects? Heard a woman on a radio talk show was on it for 2 weeks and felt normal again during that time. Want to know about any side effects. I am dealing with sevear arthritis in both shoulders and my right knee . Taking emergene C every day plus coq10 and super beets plus a few others
Librium is a benzodiazepine, which is a sleeping drug and it can cause dependence in itself. Benzodiazepines are sometimes used to control the symptoms that come from alcohol withdrawal in patients that are trying to quit alcohol.
On the other hand, this needs to be done under the strict supervision of a doctor so the patient does not end up with another addiction other than alcohol as benzodiazepines can cause dependence as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
