General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Librium is a benzodiazepine, which is a sleeping drug and it can cause dependence in itself. Benzodiazepines are sometimes used to control the symptoms that come from alcohol withdrawal in patients that are trying to quit alcohol.

On the other hand, this needs to be done under the strict supervision of a doctor so the patient does not end up with another addiction other than alcohol as benzodiazepines can cause dependence as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
