Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mom has alot of lower lumbar pain and like a pitch nerve in her lower back does this lidocaine 5% patach help this type of pain and does it matter that she takes medicine like anxiety medicine and blood pressure medicine with these types of patches?
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. Lidocaine patches have been shown to help with some kinds of pain, such as nerve pain from shingles, but has not shown to help with lower back pain like your mom's. You can try it to see if it helps, but I would not expect it to make a huge difference.
Even though the lidocaine patch mostly does absorb into the circulation, some of it can, and so to be safe you should make sure it doesn't interact with her anxiety and blood pressure medications, depending on what they are.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
