Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I HAVE BEEN ON LIPATOR FOR MANY YEARS. MY LIVER ENZYMES HAVE BEN GOING UP OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS. A CAT SCAN SHOWED A FATTY LIVER. I DO NOT DRINK AND FOLLOW A LOW FAT DIET. MY LDL AND TRIGLYCERIDES REMAIN ELEVATED. I ALSO TAKE FENOFIBRATE. COULD LIPATOR BE THE CAUSE?
Rather the reverse is true. Statin therapy like atorvastatin (Lipitor) has been shown to be safe in patients with liver dysfunction.
This is important—even if your liver function tests are abnormal from fatty liver changes, you can take statins, and the medications can often improve fatty liver.
Change your dietary habits, avoid fatty greasy foods, alcohol, junk food, painkiller medications and take soft diet with plenty of raw fruits and vegetables. Be physically active.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
