Does Lipitor Cause Muscle Pain In The Arms And Joints?

Hello, I am currently taking Lipitor 20mg. I have deep muscle pain in my arms, and my joints are painful and weak. I am extremely tired as well. Would you say these are side effects of the Lipitor? I looked up the side effects of this drug and I have just about every one of them: tiredness, memory problems, muscle pain and weakness. Should I cut the mgs down or ask my PCP to place me on another cholesterol medication?

Hello,

As you were describing, all the symptoms which are relevant to the side effects of Lipitor (Atorvastatin), the probable cause might be the expected that is side effects. You stop taking the drug for 1 week and if the symptoms are relieved, then you can confirm it as side effects.

Lipitor is a good drug used for lowering lipids but in some people it may cause side effects. So, there is no use of reducing the dosage. First, completely stop taking Lipitor. If symptoms continue even after 1 week, then you can contact us at any time. You can start Lovastatin instead of Lipitor.

Follow the below apart from taking Lovastatin which could help you in lowering the lipids in your blood:
1. Lifestyle changes (decreased stress, increased activity)
2. Reduce dietary cholesterol
3. Avoid food rich in saturated fats
4. Take fiber rich diet
5. Omega-3-rich fish, such as salmon, sardines are helpful
6. Control your weight if excess

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vamsi Krishna Chittimoju
