Does Lipitor Cause Pain In The Ankles?

About a month ago I was informed by my Dr that my triglycerides were very high and he gave me a prescription for lipitor. About a week later I saw him again for a very sore ankle. He took xrays and said sprain although I didn't remember hurting it in any way. He prescribed a small brace and rest. Almost three weeks later it's not any better and I have severe muscle pain all over my body. Could this be all from the lipitor

Thanks for contacting with your health concern.

1. Although lipitor [atorvastatin] does cause muscle pain, the phenomenon is poorly understood and may cause either muscle pain-fatigue or weakness, [it might be the reason]

PS. although muscle pain could be caused by the drug, it might be caused by something else, also some people are more likely to develop side effects from statins, including muscle pain, i.e. those having following risk factors:

. smaller body mass, impaired kidney/liver function, age above 60 years, diabetes. [so check the values]

2. get an appointment or second opinion with an Orthopedic surgeon regarding your symptom of sore ankle as it could be from stress fracture/sprain and he may exclude simultaneously: nerve damage [neuropathy], high uric acid, or any poor circulation to the foot [any peripheral vascular disease/diabetes]

PS. It is important to consult with Orthopedic surgeon/Podiatrist to prevent further or long-term damage since failure to do so can lead to disability, paralysis, permanent symptoms of pain and numbness.
