Does MS Contin On Long Run Cause Depression?

my brother is 59 and he had a stroke yesterday. he was diagnosed a diabetic about 2 years ago and does not follow a diet, he started losing weight about 4 years ago and has almost become emaciated. when i went to his house today i found some pills not in a prescription bottle that turned out to be ms contin. I have suspected drug addiction for quite awhile. he had become angry with the world and sort of a recluse. I took one pill to the hospital and turned it over to the nurse caring for him. i was wondering if what he has turned into could be a side effect of long term usage.
