Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Malarone cause lowe sperm count? My daughter and her husband are trying to get pregnant and she has had a difficult time even though her ovulation is regular. They went to Africa on their honeymoon in July. Started trying to get pregnant in September . Thanks
Malarone really does not cause low sperm count. It does not affect fertility. If they fail after 1 year of unproteced sex, they should consult infertility specialist.Following investigation will help to rule out cause.
For daughter's husband: Complete semen analysis, serum testosterone, USG scan of pelvis/scrotum if needed, post coital test.
For daughter: Reproductive hormone analysis, USG scan and ovarian follicle study.
Specific treatment will depend on tests result. Meanwhile avoid stress, take healthy diet with multivitamin supplements, drink plenty of water, do regular exercise like walking, running followed by medication for medication, do unprotected sex during fertile phase of cycle.
Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
