I am a 22 years old female. I am overweight... 5 ft 4 230 pounds...I am also a smoker. (about 5-6 cigs a day) i don't drink but occasionally i take marijuana. Lately I have been getting chest pains beneath my breast (not on my breast, behind it.) its not constantly there. its kind of like a sharp stabbing pain that occurs sometimes, usually after i eat. It feels like a bad cramp and it only lasts for a few minutes
Dear patient, The sharp stabbing chest pain after consuming food in a lady of your height and weight with a history of smoking is mostly a case of GERD, i.e., gastroesophageal reflux disease. In this disease, the acid of the stomach refluxes upwards causing chest pain, burning sensation and burping. In severe cases, it may cause nausea and vomiting. It is advisable to start you on proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole. But this shall be possible only after thorough investigations, clinical examintion and under supervision of your GP.
Dear patient, For a female your height, weight and habit of smoking, this appears to be a case of GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease. This is a problem where patients typically complain of burning/ stabbing pain in chest after consuming food, particularly spicy n oily food, aerated drinks and alcohol. Some people also end up with nause, burrping and vomiting after eating food. It is advisable for you to lose weight, have a balanced diet without oil and spices, exercise. Donot recline or sleep till about 30 mins after food and eat your meals 2 hours before bedtime at night. In severe cases, pls visit your GP for examination and investigations and if needed, proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole may need to be prescribed to you.
