Does Marijuana Worsen The Condition Of A Hole In The Heart?

My boyfriend has had a hole in his heart since birth and has recently been for ablation. We thought the hole and been burned shut but it has come back. He has also been prescribed with beta blockers. I am beginning to worry about his health as he smokes marijuana at least once a day. Could this be worsening his condition? And will the marijuana interact with the pills.

Hi,

Marijuana will not directly affect the size of the hole in the heart in this case. However, short term as well as long term bad effects on his health may be definitely there. Short term effects may be like altered senses like seeing brighter colors, mood swings, disorientation of time and space, impaired memory, difficulty with rational thinking and problem solving as well as delusions and hallucinations.

In the long term he may be having breathing problems along with frequent lung infections, recurrent nausea and vomiting as well as increased heart rate. Due to the effect of Marijuana on the heart rate, the pill of beta blocker may definitely interact with Marijuana resulting in failure or a decreased effect of Beta blocker on the heart rate.
