Does Marvelon Work Effective As Emergency Contraceptive?

Hi, I live in the UAE and EC is not available here. My husband and I had sex on the 16th (1:00 a.m.) and the condom tore. Though he withdrew, we want to make sure. My period started on the 7th and i have a regular cycle. I read about using Marvelon as EC. Kindly tell me if the four plus four method is effective enough. Will it effect my otherwise regular cycle other than the next one as I dont want to take a risk of irregular cycles as we do want to have children? Please help. Thanks

Thanks for your question. In my opinion marvelon can be used as emergency contraception pill. The regular emergency contraception pill contains only progesterone where as marvelon is a birth control pill it contains both estrogen and progesterone.

Marvelon should be taken before 48 to 96 hours of unprotected sex. And the second dose should be taken before 12 hours from the first dose.

These birth control pills are actually prescribed to regularise menstrual cycle, so there is no question of irregular bleeding after taking the tablet.
