Does Meprate Intake Cause Infertility?
hi doc i hav a Doubt my girl friend is taking meprate tablet for past 6 Months as she had irregular periods now we have planned to get married she is continuing with the tablets so will it affect her getting pregnant and even if she gets pregnant will these tablets affect foetus .please suggest .

Meprate contains medroxyprogesterone, a female natural sex hormone called progesterone that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses and in the treatment of irregular periods, abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea or absence of menstrual cycles etc. As this medication helps to regulate ovulation and without ovulation, pregnancy is not possible, so Meprate will support pregnancy.
This medication doesn't cause abortion but it may cause little bleeding and that may be harmful to the baby. It may cause birth defects too according to some clinical studies. If someone gets pregnant during taking this medication, then she should inform her doctor immediately for medical help.
