Does Metformin Increase Fertility While Having PCOS?
I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and the dr. Found an endometrioma. I have regular periods and ovulate. I started taking 500mg of metformin 1 week before ovulation and I am wondering what the chances are of conceiving this month with metformin are? I have a lot noticed an increase in wetness. Is this due to metformin?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the common endocrinological disorder which results in infertility in women due to irregular menstruation and untimely ovulation. Metformin is an oral diabetes medication that helps control blood sugar levels. Since 'insulin resistance' plays an important role in the pathophysiology of PCOS resulting in hampering the process of proper ovulation, Metformin is administered in such cases. It works by improving the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin, which results in a reduction of circulating insulin levels and better chances of proper ovulation to take place. This would improve the chances of conceiving in women having PCOS. Kindly take the medication as advised and do the necessary follow-up. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
