Hi,
Methadone belongs to the group of medications known as opioids which is used to treat pain. It is also used for
detoxification or maintenance treatment of an opioid
drug addiction. Methadone works on pain receptors in your body. It reduces how much pain you feel. It can also replace another opioid drug that you have an addiction to. This will help you refrain from experiencing severe
withdrawal symptoms. This drug can make you very drowsy. So, you should not drive or use machinery or do other activities that require alertness after you have taken this drug.
Methadone may cause serious symptoms of side effects like rashes, itching, swelling of lips, tongue, throat, face, eyes, hands or feet, wheezing, breathing difficulties,
hypotension or
dizziness etc. It may cause weight gain too. If these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor promptly for medical attention. But, before starting or stopping this medication, you should inform your doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
