Does Methadone Treatment Lead To Hyper Activity?

my daughter in law is on a methadone treatment. is it normal for her to become very hyper at the beginning of her dose and then become sleepy at the end of the day? I am worried that she is back sliding into old habits but don t want to jump to the wrong conclusions.

Hello,

I understand your concern.
While on methadone, one is not supposed to act hyper, because this drug is supposed to block the effects of the high from heroin, morphine and all other opiates.
However, it is possible to get high on methadone, depending on the dose and on tolerance to opiates of the person. Some people can get high on 40 mg of methadone, and some others on 100 mg.
If not already back on drugs, it is possible that your daughter in law may be on an a self imposed dose of methadone, so it is better to check and get her help as soon as possible.

I hope this helps.
Wishing you all the best.
