Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have graves disease and I take methimazole. Can taking it for a long time cause cancer ? My doctor wants me to have my thyroid removed with the radioactive iodine treatment. I am not sure. I also have panic attacks. Can they be related to my thyroid problem ? The panic attacks are at random times and bother me a lot. Are there tests to find out why I have these panic attacks at random times ?
Hi thanks for asking question. Panic attack is mostly due to fear and stress about something. You have stress regarding thyroid and its treatment. So to avoid panic attack don't take stress.Grave disease is not life threating disease. It has treatment available. The methimazole not lead to any cancer.Headache, sore throat, difficult breathing etc are some side effect. Radioactive treatment also can be helpful. If still panic attack not controlled with behavioural modification then anxiolytic drug can be helpful. I hope my suggestion will help you.
