Does Methotrexate Make Narrow Angle Glaucoma Worse?
Hi. I ve just been prescribed buccastem tablets 3mg for nausea caused by taking methotrexate for RA. I noticed in some information I read that people with narrow angle glaucoma (which I have) perhaps shouldn t be taking this medicine. What are the possible ramifications for my glaucoma if I take buccastem just once or twice a week (the day after I ve taken the methotrexate)? Thanks.
Hi Thanks for the query. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Buccastem.
Well, as a matter of fact use of Buccastem can result in dilatation of the pupils thereby reducing the outflow of the aqueous humor raising the pressure within the eyeball. Therefore any drug that will cause an increase in the pressure within the eye ball should not be administered to patients with acute angle closure glaucoma.
Hope these explanations could be useful to you in getting the treatment of methotrexate induced vomiting without affecting the pressure within the eye.
Wishing you best of your health.

Methotrexate induced vomiting can be effectively prevented with the use of another important but safer drug ONDANSETRON.
