Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife is on Metoprolol tartrate 25 mg , 1/2 tablet twice a day. Does this medication cause a chronic cough? She is also on losartan potassium 100 mg once daily. She also takes diphenhydramine HCl liquid as needed for the chronic cough. Any suggestions to help her stop the chronic cough. She coughs until she blows out her nose and then she is ok for a while. This occours during the day and also when sleeping although not as much during sleep. This occours at rest as well as when she is talking. She is 75 years old and very active.
It lowers hypertension. But does not cause chronic cough. Consult pulmonologist for investigation and clinical examination for diagnosis of chronic cough. If evidence of bronchospasm, then tab Deiphylin or Bronchodyl can be given. Further medication only on advise of immunologist. After these investigations and treatments, she will be alright.
