Does Microgynon 30 Have Any Side Effects?

Hi Dr Rynne. I was recently prescribed Microgynon 30 as a contraceptive method, however after gaining weight, more acne and depression mood moments I swapped today. The doctor gave me Marvelon. After researching and reading the leaflet, it has the exact same amounts of progest and oest as microgynon 30 only differing in the type of prog. I am concerned there is a better suited pill for me that she s not giving. Do you have any advice? Thanks (I am a Biomedical Scienist)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As you said the microgynon and marvelon have the same amount of hormones. Probably the effects on you may be the same but you need to try it before saying. Almost all hormonal contraception pills have the same side effects. You may try Mirena if you can't cope with the pills.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
