Does Minoxidil Suppress The Immune System?

hi doctor am of age 24 am suffering from alopecia which i came to know that due to immune system disorder.when i consulted the doctor he advised to take minoxidil but i hav a doubt does the minoxidil suppress theimmune system?do we need to use minoxidil for life long as there is no specific treatment for immunity disorders...if so in the case that when am pregnant what i should do?do i need to discontinue minoxidil at that time?

Hi,

Minoxidil when applied on the scalp, dilates the blood vessels on the scalp and increases the blood flow. Thus the hair follicles are stimulated causing hair growth.

Minoxidil takes 2 to 3 weeks to act and the hair growth may stop 2 or 3 months after stopping the drug. No well defined studies are available regarding the use of minoxidil in pregnant women. Hence, it should only be used if absolutely essential.
