Does Nair Cream Cause Burning Sensation On The Skin?

hello, I wanted some advice on my current situation: I bought Nair hair removal creme for the face and used it to remove the peach fuzz on my face. I ve never used nair before but I followed the directions exactly. It said start with 5 minutes so that s exactly what I did 5 minutes, no more no less. I began to remove the creme from my face and immediately got a burning sensation as soon as I touched it. Immediately upon removal my entire face is a deep red, with major swelling, and red bumps around my lips and the apples of my cheeks. There s were some breaks in the skin, that did have blood, again on my cheeks. I couldn t actually feel anything on my face but there was a constant numb burn all over that hurt so much I couldn t move my face at all. I had a college writing exam this morning that I couldn t miss so there s wasn t I lot I could do. I rinsed my face under cold water for 15 minutes (thats what google said was the immediate treatment you should do for nair rash) but I didn t do much, just burned alot. I only put all natural moisturizing lotion on my face amd that was it. I have gradually regained feeling in my face but it is still really read, still burns, and still hurts to the touch. Also, there is alot of heat radiating from my face to the touch. I ve been light headed, my vision has been blurry, and I ve has a small headache all day. This happened about 8 hours ago so I m getting concerned. I was just wondering if you think its just a normal rash burn from the nair or if it s something more. I m mostly worried its chemical burn, if you think it is do you think I should go to the doctors? (I ve been avoiding it because its kind of embarrassing) but if I don t need to go to the doctors is there anything I can do at home?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

its really a distressing experience.dont worry.everything gets back to normal.just follow the below instructions :
1)do not apply any soap, face wash, lotion on your face.
2)just rinse it with cool water 4-5 times/day.
3)calamine lotion(caladryl) is available in medical stores.just get it and apply evenly all over the face expect near eyes.
4)tab.hydroxyzine(vistaril) 10mg to be taken twice daily for 3 days.
5)try your best to avoid exposure to sunlight and dust.
6)it usually takes atleast 1-2 days for the skin to replenish.
7)go for supplementation of skin nourishing agents like vitamin A (carrots, pumpkin etc),vitamin C(citrus family fruits),vitamin B3 and biotin.
8)above all do not panic.its only a matter of time and your skin gets back to its original state.
9)my sincere advise is think for 10 times before applying anything on face.
even after 2 days of above treatment, you don't find any improvement, then you can see a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
