Does Norethindrone Cause Spotting Between Periods?
I gave birth on 11/15/15 and had a menstrual cycle on 1/02/15. My OB prescribed Norethindrone.35 mg to me on 1/11/15. I am currently on week 2, day 2 of the medication. I have had mild cramping the past few days. I just started spotting this morning. I have never spotted between cycles before. Am extremely regular. I have taken the pill previously, twice. But that was 15+ years ago. I am 41 years old. Is this spotting normal?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Symptoms you are experiencing like abdominal cramps and spotting are common side effects associated with the use of Norethindrone during the initial stages. Although you have used it previously, such symptoms could occur when you use it again after a gap of certain duration. These symptoms could last for about 3 months and should subside gradually without any intervention. However, if such symptoms continue to bother you or worsten, you need to seek medical attention immediately. You may need to adopt some other mode of contraception which would suit you. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
