Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Paxil cause low iron or even anemia? I am a 57-year old female in excellent health. I have been taking 10 mg daily of Paxil for the past year for anxiety due to work-related stress. I also have been a regular blood donor for the past 30 years, but, two months ago, I tried to donate blood and was told my iron was slightly below the required level to donate - I think the required number is 38 and I was at 36. I waited for a month and ate lots of iron-rich vegetables like spinach and kale and also lean red meat but when I tried to donate again, I could not due to my iron level being slightly below the required number. I immediately wondered if low iron was a side-effect of the Paxil.
