Does Pepto Bismol Cause Diarrhea?

I was given by my Dr. diphen/atrop 2.5 mg for diarrhea. but i took 30mg of pepto bismol about an hour ago. Note i also take Metoprolol ER 50mg and Lisinopril 20mg and my DR. did know this when he gave me the prescription for the diphen/atrop for diarrhea. I am not sure if the Pepto will cause an issue.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for trusting HealthCare magic for your health problems.

No peptide bismol can not cause diarrhea.
First of all if diarrhea are non Infective and there are no other symptoms you can take tablet loperamide 2 mg single dose instead of diphen/atrop only and only in case of emergency. Otherwise ORS (oral rehydration solution - WHO approved) is best for non Infective diarrhea.
Other home remedies like salt water, rice water can be taken. Coffee, curd, pomegranate can also control bowel movements and thus diarrhea.

I hope this will help you.

Regards
Dr hiren.
