Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you, I lost complete hearing in my left year 4 years ago related to a misdiagnosed viral in infection. The ENT said had I been given prednisone in the first 72 hours I may have not lost my hearing. I now have a coclear implant. I now have an infection in my good ear and am concerned that I be put on prednisone. Is this a good idea?
I am not able to understand, the indication of prednisone in your previous infection. Prednisone does not help in the treatment of infections. Of course, it may help in the resolution of symptoms of inflammation., as a result of allergies, cold which may cause inflammation of Eustachian tubes, resulting in its blockage and hence causing loss of hearing.
Now if you are having infection of ear, then it is advisable to consult your doctor, who may prescribe you antibiotic or/and prednisone, as indicated. Use of prednisone without proper indication may result in very severe unwanted effect on the body.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
