I m writing on behalf of my 60 year old mother. She experienced an allergic reaction to augmentin and went to urgent care this afternoon. The urgent care physician prescribed prednisone and told her to take three 20 mg pills/tablets. The hives and itching from augmentin has started to subside, but she s now experiencing severe hoarseness and her voice was cracking as she called me. Is this a normal side effect for taking 60 mg of prednisone? She has taken prednisone before with no reaction, but has never taken 60 mg at once. She s wondering if this warrants an ER visit (since it s Sunday night and her family physician and Urgent Care are both closed).
