Hi,
Progyluton is a drug that is usually used for women with abnormal
uterine bleeding to regulate the menstrual cycle. It contains estradiol and norgestrel. The dose of estrogen and
progesterone is quite low and so it doesn't prevent pregnancy. It is preferred by mothers of young girls presenting with irregular menstrual cycles because it tends to be less frequently associated with the usual side effects of birth control pills. It is also preferred for treatment in older women with abnormal uterine bleeding as it contains low dose of hormones. But it has some side effects too like weight gain, breast pain, breast enlargement,
breakthrough bleeding, GIT upset, allergic reactions etc. Regular taking of balanced diet and exercising may help to prevent weight gain. Patients with known or suspected cancer in which growth of cancer is stimulated by oestrogen, eg cancer of the lining of the womb (
endometrial carcinoma) and known or suspected or past history of
breast cancer shouldn't use this medication. This drug is totally contraindicated in such group of patients.
Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
